Former Missouri State Senator John Lamping joins the Mark Reardon Show to discuss how and why the Missouri government is considering ending presidential primaries to host caucuses.
“The rationale is simply that it costs money to have an election, it costs 7 million dollars to have one election. We never really had a say in the ultimate outcome of who wins the primary. So Missouri is not a key state, people have stopped campaigning in Missouri for primary elections,” stated Lamping.
Later he commented, “I understand the emotional knee-jerk reaction to say, ‘Hey, wait a second! I wanna vote for something.’ These primary elections nowadays… the turn out is not very high. By the time Missouri gets a round of voting in, we’re normally 2/3rds of the way through the important states, and it doesn’t really make a difference.”
