Former State Senator Paul Schimpf announced that he is running for Governor Pritzker's seat in 2022 in the state of Illinois.
"I'm running because I believe in order for Illinois to thrive, we have to have responsible government, safe communities, and economic growth through the free market," he said. "We are getting the opposite of those three things."
Schimpf said the challenges facing the state are daunting, but he's not afraid to tackle those challenges head-on.
One of his top issues is a return to local control. Folks in Illinois are starting to realize the top-down government is bureaucratic overreach, look no further than how the pandemic was handled.
"People don't trust their Illinois government and tired of the abuse of power," he said.
Annie spoke with Schimpf about FOID cards, the economy, top issues he will try and handle, and bringing Chicago Democrats and rural Republicans together.
"I think we need to have a simple message that we can all talk about for the people of Illinois," he said.
