Heritage Foundation analyst Jim Carafano joined Marc for his weekly visit, this one on the heels of President Joe Biden's announcement of a speed-up of US troop withdrawal from Afghanistan from September to August.
Carafano says the amount of troops actually in Afghanistan was very low.
"We had fewer troops there than we had around the Capitol, none of them were participating in combat, almost never had any casualties," says Carafano. "It was a modest commitment, and for that commitment we were keeping the country stable."
Carafano is concerned with the upcoming lack of US troops in the region to help the nation.
"The best case scenario is Afghanistan splits into two states, and there's a Taliban state and a rump Afghan state," says Carafano, "the worst case scenario is utter chaos."
He would like a better explanation of the move.
"I'm not really sure what Biden thought he was accomplishing," says Carafano, "I can't actually find an analyst who says that. We're ending endless wars, what are we actually accomplishing here? I can't find one person in Washington who can explain the policy of Washington."
