KMOX's Sports Open Line host Matt Pauley joins from Jupiter, FL to talk about the beginning of Spring Training for the Cardinals. The first game will be against the Washington Nationals at Roger Dean Stadium.
On the subject of Wilson Contreras, Matt added that "He has had defensive issues. I'm not trying to sugarcoat the defensive issues that he's had, but the Cardinals seem to be really happy with the work he's put in....I think the thought process is that the Cubs did not challenge him to be a better defensive catcher. He is now being challenged by the Cardinals to do that. He is putting in the work that goes along with it. And while he might not be Yadi or Molina defensively, he is not going to be somebody that's going to hurt you behind the plate as much as some people think.
Matt was excited saying that "Tonight is the final night we live where baseball is not being played." He also theorized on Jordan Walker, saying "I still think it's a 50-50 proposition on if Walker is on the team on opening day, but he's going to be a Cardinal at some point this year. And once he is a Cardinal, he's going to be a Cardinal for a really long time."
