KMOX's Tom Ackerman says, the lingering Major League Baseball labor dispute means he gets the question about the start of the season, "every day."
"Here's the thing, if you were going to start Spring Training on time, you'd have to have an agreement done by today, and that's not gonna happen," says Ackerman, "the two sides still aren't talking."
Ackerman tells Jeff Katz, filling in for Marc Cox, that he thinks the goal should be starting Spring Training by March 1, which would allow for about a month of Spring Training and not delay the start of the regular season.
"You're gonna need about two-weeks lead time to get to that March 1st, so they're gonna have to have something done by the Super Bowl," says Ackerman. "If by the Super Bowl baseball has an agreement, I think they're in good shape."
Ackerman's segment with Katz began with a conversation about the Saint Louis University Billikens basketball win over George Mason in double-overtime and St Louis native Yuri Collins' outing which included the game winning shot.
"He scored 35-points last night, a career high, he dished out 13 assists, he hit the game-winning layup at the buzzer," says Ackerman. "He had a phenomenal game, he is the best point guard in the country."
