Blake Griffin could be done for the season.

The Pistons star underwent knee surgery and will be out indefinitely, the team announced Tuesday. There is no timetable for his return, which means it's unlikely we'll see him again this season.

For Detroit, it appears the tank is on

Griffin injured his knee toward the end of last season, then returned to play the final two games of the Pistons' first-round playoff loss to the Bucks. He underwent a minor operation shortly thereafter, with the hope of being fully healthy for the 2019-20 season.

It wasn't meant to be.

Griffin missed the first 10 games of the season and clearly wasn't the same when he returned. He averaged just 15.5 points over 18 games, on the heels of arguably the best season of his career.

It's a tough break for Griffin, but in the short term it may be the best thing for the Pistons. The more they lose in the second half of the season, the higher they'll pick in the draft.

Long term, it casts questions over Griffin's future. He turns 31 in March and he's owed about $70 million through 2021, with a $39 million player option for 2022.
