The Lions stood pat at the trade deadline, but they've spent Wednesday trying to upgrade their roster.
They signed rookie CB Michael Jackson, activated 2019 fourth-round pick DE Austin Bryant from injured reserve and added OL Casey Tucker to their practice squad.
They also brought in free agent DB DeShawn Shead for a work out, according to Ian Rapoport. Shead played 12 games for Detroit last year.
A familiar face is back in town: DB DeShawn Shead is in Detroit working out right now with the #Lions, source said. He was with them last year at times.
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) October 30, 2019The Lions are banged-up in the secondary, with safety Tracy Walker day-to-day with a knee injury and Darius Slay trying to work his way back from a hamstring injury. Shead could help fill the void.
He has the size that Matt Patricia likes in his defensive backs. He's also adept at covering tight ends, which has been one of Walker's primary jobs this season.
Patricia and the Lions liked Shead enough to sign him to a $3 million contract last year, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see him return. Shead, 30, signed with the Seahawks this offseason, where he spent the first six years of his career, but was cut at the end of training camp.
He's spent the duration of this season as a free agent.
