97.1 The Ticket -- When the Red Wings announced last month that former Wing Steve Yzerman was the new general manager of the franchise, longtime GM Ken Holland was expected to stick around in Detroit, as he agreed to a multi-year extension to be a senior vice president with the team.

It appears he had a change of heart and still wants to be a GM.

Darren Dreger of TSN reports that Holland will almost surely become the GM of the Edmonton Oilers -- it's only a matter of paperwork to make it a formality. He is expected to meet with Red Wings management on Sunday.

The paperwork still has to get done. Provided all of that is managed today, expect the Oilers to introduce Holland as the new GM in the next few days. Holland will have autonomy and Nicholson could take on a bigger role as well. https://t.co/xnh9eyu6Rh

Holland's deal will reportedly be worth $25 million over five years, according to Dreger.

Holland spent 22 seasons as the Red Wings GM before stepping aside to allow the franchise to bring Yzerman into the role -- a deal Holland reportedly facillitated himself.
