NEW YORK (97.1 The Ticket) -- Center Jacob de la Rose was taken to the hospital with an accelerated heart rate after Tuesday's 3-2 win over the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden.
The Red Wings said he was taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons and will remain in New York overnight. He will not make the trip for the team's next game, in St. Louis on Thursday.

The 23-year-old de la Rose left the game right after he assisted on an Andreas Athanasiou goal in the second period.

Training staff told head coach Jeff Blashill about de la Rose's symptoms during the second intermission, according to NHL.com.

"I think he probably felt it and went to the training staff and the training staff checked him and it was accelerated and they couldn't get it to slow down in time," Blashill told NHL.com.

It is not the first time de la Rose has had a heart issue -- he had a "cardiac issue" during the Canadiens' final preseason game in Ottawa.

The Wings want to be cautious because this is not the first time de la Rose, 23, has had a heart issue this season.

When de la Rose was with the Montreal Canadiens, he experienced what was called a "cardiac issue" after the Canadiens' final preseason game against in Ottawa. The Wings claimed him off waivers in October.

Blashill said he did not know whether it was the same issue on Tuesday as what de la Rose experienced last fall.
