LOS ANGELES (KNX) – The NFL announced the Bills-Bengals game won’t continue this week after Bills safety Damar Hamlin collapsed during Monday night’s game.
“After speaking with both teams and NFLPA leadership, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell informed the clubs today that the Bills-Bengals will not be resumed this week,” the NFL said in a press release, adding that a decision has not been made about whether the teams will play at a later date.
During Monday night’s game, Hamlin made a tackle on Bengals wide receiver Bengals receiver Tee Higgins, who then lowered his helmet to Hamlin’s chest. Seconds after getting up, Hamlin collapsed on the field and had to be given CPR.
After Hamlin was taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center, the game was temporarily suspended until it was later announced by the NFL that the game would not resume.
Hamlin was listed in critical condition. His family released a statement Tuesday thanking first responders, the healthcare team at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, the fans and the Buffalo Bills organization among others.
