You knew Amon-Ra St. Brown can recite the names of the 16 wide receivers drafted ahead of him in 2021. But did you know he revisits them three times per day during the season?
"I actually still think about it," St. Brown said this week on the NFL Network.
St. Brown keeps a notebook in which he has his personal goals for each season. (Last season: 100-plus catches and 1,300 yards. He came close.) Beneath his goals, "I have the 16 receivers written down and where they went to college," he said.
"I read that list three times before I go to practice every day. It’s something I’ll never forget and something I make sure I’m always reminded of, because it’s kind of like someone in your family passing away," he said. "As the years go on, it gets easier on you and then you start to forget about it a little more, but it’s something that you’ll never forget.
"So I personally never forget it, having that in my notebook every time I go out to practice just to make sure I’m staying focused and never forget what happened to me."
As for his personal goals this year, St. Brown isn't yet ready to share them. He said "people always ask me what’s in that notebook, but I actually don’t tell anyone until after the season."
"Because if I tell you guys now and I don’t achieve it, you guys might want to say something, ‘Oh, he said this, that and the other.’ But I keep it to myself and maybe at the end of the year we can revisit that list," said St. Brown.
Meanwhile, the other list will continue to fuel him.
