Detroit Lions fans put on their investigative glasses Monday night when the team sent out a tweet that appears to tease their new alternate helmet.
The helmet, which will be paired with the Lions' all-grey alternate uniform, is slated to be unveiled soon -- perhaps as soon as Wednesday judging by Monday's tweet.
With an eye-popping emoji, the Lions posted the rear or a 1970's-style Ford Mustang whose license plate reads, "ALT HMT," with "June 21" scripted on the trunk.
Are the Lions going 50 years back and duplicating their 1973 look? Are they going with an all-blue helmet with the current logo and classic silver stripe down the middle?
The club currently has two helmets in operation: the standard silver one with the team logo and blue striping (worn with their home and road uniforms) and the all-silver one (worn with their throwbacks). The new alternate helmet is expected to look significantly different than the standard one.
We should find out on Wednesday.
