Bettors wasted no time in predicting the Detroit Lions will win the Lombardi Trophy next season.
Seconds after the Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII, BetMGM released Super Bowl LIX odds. And throughout Sunday night and into Monday morning, the Lions (+1200) commanded more tickets and handle than 30 NFL teams. Only the Chiefs were a more popular pick.
In the first 12 hours of betting, bettors pounded the Chiefs, Lions, and Buffalo Bills. Those three teams had more than 50% of the handle on 40% of the tickets:
Chiefs (+750): 20.3% tickets, 26.3% handle
Lions (+1200): 14.1% tickets, 16.3% handle
Bills (+1200): 5.7% tickets, 10.3% handle
No other team had more than 6% of the handle. The two other teams ahead of both the Bills and Lions on the odds board — the 49ers (+500) and Baltimore Ravens (+850) — attracted minimal interest. They combined for just 9% of the tickets and 8.7% of the handle.
