Lions Players Elect Six Captains For 2020 Season

The Lions kick off the 2020 season Sunday against the Bears, and they'll have six captains leading the way.

Matt Patricia announced Friday that the players elected QB Matthew Stafford, LT Taylor Decker, DE Trey Flowers, S Duron Harmon, LB Jarrad Davis and LS Don Muhlbach as this year's captains.

Harmon is the one newcomer in the group, but his election isn't a surprise. He's been one of the team's vocal leaders since arriving via a trade from New England, especially on matters of social justice.

Stafford, Decker and Flowers have also been at the forefront of those conversations throughout a turbulent offseason.

Davis enters his fourth season in Detroit, with a lot on the line. While his play needs to improve, his captaincy speaks to the respect he commands from his teammates.

Muhlbach, of course, is the Lions' longest-tenured player and one of the longest-tenured players in the NFL. The 39-year-old is beginning his 17th season.
