Saddiq Bey and Isaiah Stewart ran with the NBA as rookies. Now they'll run with their country's best.
The two All-Rookie selections for the Pistons have been named to the 2021 USA Basketball Select Team that will train next week with the men's national team to help prepare the senior squad for the Tokyo Olympics this summer.
USA Basketball managing director Jerry Colangelo said "we chose a USA Select Team consisting of many of the top young NBA players" to keep the Olympic Team players sharp during training camp later this month in Las Vegas.
The Select Team will train daily with the Olympic Team from July 6-9.
Other members of the Select Team, which will be coached by Erik Spoelstra, include fellow 2021 All-Rookie selections Anthony Edwards, Tyrese Haliburton, Immanuel Quickley and Patrick Williams.
It's no small distinction for Bey and Stewart. Seven members on this year's Olympic Team, including Pistons forward Jerami Grant, once played on the Select Team. 15 select team players overall have gone on to represent the US in the Olympics.
