Welcome to the Troy Weaver era.
After trading for Trevor Ariza to add a first-round pick shortly before the draft Wednesday night, the Pistons traded Luke Kennard to the Clippers for another first-round pick, this one No. 19 overall.
With that pick, the Pistons took Villanova F Saddiq Bey. All-Big East last season, Bey averaged 16.1 points per game and shot over 45 percent from three.
He'll give Detroit a long, athletic scorer off the wing and another moldable piece for their young core.
"This is a good player who's going to play a big role for a lot of years as a starter," said ESPN analyst Jay Bilas.
Detroit started the draft by taking PG Killian Hayes No. 7 overall, then used the pick acquired in the Ariza trade to select C Isaiah Stewart No. 16 overall.
Kennard, the Pistons' first-round pick in 2017, averaged a career-high 15.8 points last season and shot 40 percent from three. But he's battled knee problems over his three years in Detroit and he was due a raise next offseason.
So Weaver decided the Pistons were better off with Bey.
