Patrick Kane is running it back with the Red Wings.

On the eve of free agency, the future Hall of Famer has re-signed with Detroit on a one-year, $3 million deal with performance bonuses that could push the total value of the contract to $7 million. The lower salary means a lower cap hit.

Kane will reportedly earn an additional:
> $2.5 million for 10 games played
> $250,000 each for 30 and 50 games played
> $500,000 if the Red Wings make the playoffs
> $250,000 if they reach the second round
> $250,000 if they reached the third round

It's a similar deal to the one Kane signed last summer when he earned $4 million in base salary and an extra $1.75 million in incentives. He went on to finish fourth on the team in both goals (21) and points (59). He also led the team with six game-winning goals and was a key cog on a power play that finished fourth in the NHL.

Kane, who turns 37 in November, will rejoin wingers Lucas Raymond and Alex DeBrincat in Detroit's top six. The Red Wings are still seeking another impact winger to compete that mix, with Dylan Larkin and Marco Kasper slated to be their top two centers.

Since joining the Red Wings midway through the 2023-24 season following hip surgery, Kane has 41 goals and 106 points in 122 games.

The Red Wings on Monday also re-signed forward Jonatan Berggren to a one-year, $1.825 million deal. Berggren, who turns 25 in July, tallied 12 goals and 24 points in 75 games last season.

Berggren has the talent to bolster Detroit's depth scoring if he can claim a third-line role, but his defensive deficiencies have limited his impact in the NHL. He could also serve as a trade chip in a bigger move this summer.
