Filip Zadina may have played his final game for the club -- but not the general manager -- that drafted him sixth overall in 2018.

Steve Yzerman and the Red Wings have placed Zadina on waivers, according to Elliotte Friedman. The 23-year-old winger, who's under contract for two more seasons at $1.8 million per year, is a decent candidate to be claimed by another team.

Billed as an elite goal scorer when the Red Wings drafted him under former GM Ken Holland, Zadina scored just three goals in 30 games last season while battling injuries and has scored just 28 goals in 190 games over parts of five seasons in the NHL.

The Red Wings have added a slew of forwards to the roster in recent days and have more coming through the pipeline, including highly-touted winger Carter Mazur. That apparently pushed out Zadina, who looks bound for a new team.

“I’m worried about what Zadina looks like at 22,” Holland said at the outset of Zadina's first pro season in North America. “For us to be a Cup contender down the road, Zadina’s a big part of it. But not today when he’s 18. Hopefully when he’s 21, 22."

At 23, Zadina has been waived -- another reminder that rebuilds promise nothing.
