Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson hit by vehicle while riding scooter in Detroit

The Flames will be without No. 1 defenseman Rasmus Andersson when they take on the Red Wings Thursday night at Little Caesars Arena.

Andersson was hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle while riding a scooter in Detroit on Wednesday night, the Flames announced Thursday morning. Andersson, who was going through a crosswalk on his way to dinner when the incident occurred, was transported by ambulance to Detroit Receiving Hospital, where he received a full battery of tests before being released.

Flames GM Brad Treliving said Thursday morning that Andersson is "doing well and in good spirits."

"We're lucky," said Treliving. "Very lucky. It certainly could have been a lot worse. We want to make sure that we thank all those involved (in his care) and let everybody know that Ras is doing well."

Andersson, who leads Flames defensemen with 34 points in 51 games and ranks 12th in the NHL in ice time, won't play Thursday night. He's officially listed as day to day.

"We'll take this real slow ... Not anything that we're overly concerned about. But he got hit, so we're going to see how things go over the next 24 hours and go from there," Treliving said.

To douse any speculation, Treliving added that "there was no alcohol involved."
