Steve Yzerman's Me Time is sacred and not to be shared – 'not on national TV'

Everyone needs their Me Time, even Steve Yzerman. Everyone needs a way to unwind and relax.

And how does The Captain unwind? How does he decompress after long days at the rink as GM of the Red Wings?


How does he get his mind off hockey and enjoy himself?

Yzerman chuckled, shook his head and then broke into an all-out laugh when prompted with those questions by former NHLer and media personality Paul Bissonnette during an interview with the NHL on TNT crew Wednesday night.

"I can't be honest with that one -- not on national TV," Yzerman said with an ear-to-ear grin.

Then he did his best to come up with a PC answer:

"To get away from it, I'd like to say I play golf, but I'm not very good and I don't enjoy it, so I question why I do that. I don't even have the attention span to read books. I listen to audio books. So that's what I do: I lay in bed with my earphones in and listen to books. I guess that's what I do to take my mind off it and sleep."

Yup, sure he does. Just lies in bed and listens to books. Nothing else that might ease the mind. Nothing more that might help him sleep. Just ... the soothing sound of audio books. Mhmm, makes sense.
