Dwayne Haskins’ no good, very rotten, bad week did not get better Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.
The second-year quarterback, who got his second straight start after Alex Smith was unable to play due to injury, followed up his bad off-field week with a woeful performance on the field turning the ball over three times in the first half as Carolina built a 20-3 halftime lead.
Haskins, whose days in Washington may be numbered, finished the first half completing six of 15 passes for 36 yards (2.4 average), but with two interceptions and a fumble on one sack. A passer rating of 8.3.
Haskins moved the ball better on his first two drives of the second half, but after getting just three points on those drives, Washington head coach Ron Rivera pulled the plug.
On his final play of the game, a fourth-and-2 from the Carolina 36-yardline, Cam Sims appeared to be open, but Haskins missed the receiver and was unable to avoid the pass rush.
With 9 minutes to play in the 4th quarter and Washington down 20-6, Haskins was benched for Taylor Heinicke. Haskins' day ended with 154 yards on 14/28 passing with two interceptions and was sacked twice.
The bad day for Haskins began on his second drive when he was stripped and Carolina recovered the long fumble.
Haskins' second turnover came after he made a great play to convert on third down.
He followed that up with a terrible pass on an interception.
And for many, they had seen enough.
After newly minted Washington captain, Chase Young, forced a turnover by pressuring Panthers’ QB Teddy Bridgewater into a pick, Haskins had a chance for a quick strike and maybe a field goal attempt late in the half.
However, on his second attempt of the possession, Haskins threw into coverage for his second pick of the half.
Rivera said he would stick with Haskins after the half, but that did not last.
