The Minnesota Wild, off to a rough start to the 2023-24 season, have parted ways with head coach Dean Evason and Assistant Coach Bob Woods.
The Wild have lost seven straight host St. Louis Tuesday night at the Xcel Energy Center.
“Dean did an excellent job during his tenure with the Minnesota Wild, especially as Head Coach of our team,” said Wild GM Bill Guerin. “I am very thankful for his hard work and dedication to our organization. I would also like to thank Bob for his hard work during his time as an Assistant Coach with the Wild,” said Guerin. “I wish Dean, Bob and their families all the best in the future.”
The team also quickly announced Monday evening that John Hynes will take over as head coach. Hynes most recently coached the Nashville Predators but was let go last May.
The Wild are only 5-10-4 with 14 points this season, putting them near the bottom of the Western Conference, and now has lead to the firing of Evason and Woods.
This was Evason's first head coaching job in the NHL and it wasn't without some success. In 251 games, he compiled a 147-77-27 record, a .639 winning percentage. But an 8-15 record in the postseason, and now the slow start to this season, means the team will move on without him and hope someone else can spark them.
