Big Ten Remains Buried in Basketball National Championship Odds

Minutes after UConn beat Purdue in the 2024 national championship to deny the Big Ten its first title in 24 years, 2025 championship odds opened at BetMGM. The Boilermakers were tied with Michigan State for the shortest odds among Big Ten teams, though both were buried. More than seven months later, the conference is still buried.

On April 8, Purdue and Michigan opened at +2500, tied for the ninth-shortest odds. Each of the other three power conferences had at least two teams above them, including the Big 12 with four.

Through the first two weeks of the season, the Boilermakers are still +2500, though that's now tied for 11th, well below their sixth-place spot in this week's AP Top 25. No other Big Ten team is higher than 18th:

Michigan State: +5000 (18th)
Indiana: +5000
UCLA: +5000
Illinois: +6000 (23rd)
Ohio State: +6000
Michigan:+6000

Bettors don't seem optimistic the conference's drought will end in April. As of Tuesday, Indiana is the only team with a ticket share greater than 2% (2.4%, 11th), and UCLA is the only team with a handle share greater than 2% (3.2%, eighth). Duke leads in both tickets (15.7%) and handle (18.8%).
