ANN ARBOR, Mich. (97.1 The Ticket) – Make it official. Jim Harbaugh is staying at Michigan.

The school on Wednesday announced a new five-year contract extension that will keep Harbaugh as the Wolverines’ head coach through the 2026 season.

It was not immediately clear how much Harbaugh will earn under the restructured deal.

Harbaugh led the Wolverines to their first College Football Playoff appearance last fall, and after an offseason of uncertainty, which included an interview with the Minnesota Vikings and the departure of both coordinators, Harbaugh will be back for an eighth season.

Harbaugh said he and his family are excited to remain in Ann Arbor.

“My enthusiasm for tomorrow, the day after and every day following is as high as ever, and we are ready to get on the practice field and start preparations for the 2022 season,” Harbaugh said, per a press release, adding a “Go Blue!”

Michigan Athletic Director Warde Manuel said he has “the utmost confidence in the direction of the program under Jim’s leadership.”

Harbaugh, who was named the Associated Press’s National Coach of the Year in 2021, took the program to new heights last season, winning the Big Ten East for the first time, before falling to eventual national champion Georgia in the CFP’s Orange Bowl semifinal game.

Offensive coordinator Josh Gattis departed the program this offseason, headed for the same position at the University of Miami-FL, with QBs coach Matt Weiss and OL coach Sherrone Moore set to assume co-OC duties in 2022.

On defense, Harbaugh is reportedly bringing in former Ravens assistant and Vanderbilt defensive coordinator Jesse Minter to replace Mike Macdonald.
