It’s tourney time, and both Michigan and Michigan State are going dancing this year.

The Wolverines had to sweat things out until Selection Sunday, but learned they will be heading to Indianapolis on Thursday.

Michigan is the No. 11 seed in the South Region and will face No. 6-seed Colorado State.

The Wolverines slid in towards the back end of the field of 68, at just 17-14 -- the first team in NCAA Tournament history to receive an at-large bid at fewer than four games under .500 since Georgia in 2001. That has happened just three other times since the field expanded to the modern format in 1985.

The No. 7-seed Spartans, meanwhile, will be going up against a familiar face when they play Friday in Greenville, SC, against Foster Loyer and No. 10 Davidson.

Chalk up 24 straight NCAA Tournament appearances for MSU coach Tom Izzo, who recently passed the legendary Bob Knight for most wins in Big Ten history.

Should the Spartans advance, they’re looking at a likely matchup with No. 2 seed Duke. The Spartans have played the Blue Devils three times since 2013, including a 2019 win over Zion Williamson and Co. that sent MSU to the Final Four.
