MLB Twitter roasts Red Sox defensive nightmare that included little league home run

The Yankees enjoyed their fourth straight win on Wednesday night, with plenty of help from the Red Sox defense.

Boston kicked the ball all over the field at Fenway in Wednesday’s series finale, and were eviscerated on Twitter during the nightmare showing from the last place Sox, who seemed ready for the 2022 season to come to a merciful end.

The highlight, or lowlight, was an RBI single by Gleyber Torres turning into a little league three-run home run when a throw to first from catcher Connor Wong sailed wide and trickled down the right field line, allowing Torres, seemingly dead in the water between first and second before the throw, to score and put the Yanks ahead 3-0.

An inning earlier, with Torres on second, a lazy throw back to the pitcher after a ball to Isiah Kiner-Falefa led Torres to break for third, and the throw from the mound by Brayan Bello was wild, but somehow slowed down by Rafael Devers to hold Torres at third.

The defensive woes continued in the ninth, when Abraham Almonte had a nightmare of a time in center field. He was beat on a line drive by Giancarlo Stanton after taking a bad first step, and one batter later, drifted back to the wall in dead center and dropped what would have been the second out of the inning off the bat of Torres, but instead allowed a valuable insurance run to score.

It was a night to forget for Boston, who go to the Bronx for four more against the Yanks next week.
