In this episode of Ranked, we caught up with Padres pitcher Trey Wingenter to throw us his top five greatest Game of Thrones moments. Here’s how they fall.
5. The Red Wedding
In the context of Game of Thrones, weddings are less about romance and more about bloodshed. The Red Wedding between Edmure Tully and Roslin Fey set the bar bloody high. King Robb Stark, Queen Talisa, Lady Catelyn stark and around 15 thousand other guests are murdered in one blood-stained union.
4. Mountain vs. Viper
In a series known for violent battles, the one-on-one combat between Oberyn and Sir Gregor (Viper and Mountain) stands out for its intensity, brutality and for its gut roiling twist of an ending.
3. Battle of the Bastards
A weak but shining light in anticipation of a dark winter, the Battle of the Bastards comes late in the War of the Five Kings, pitching Jon Snow and Sansa Stark against Lord Ramsey Bolton. The outcome is a deeply satisfying return of Winterfell to Stark rule.
2. Sansa Feeds Ramsey to the Dogs
Game of Thrones doesn’t deal in equity. Many terrible people live long story arcs without ever getting their comeuppance, but Lord Ramsey Bolton was too evil not to have it coming. So evil that millions of otherwise decent people parked in front of television screens the world over cheered gleefully while watching him be eaten by a pack of ravenous dogs.
1. Cersei's Revenge on the Septa of Baelor #Shame
Some themes are so universally upsetting that they inspire us to put aside our differences and run interference for our enemies. Not even Cersei deserved the barbarous brand of cruelty inflicted on her by the Sept of Baelor. #Shame.
