We caught up with Padres infielder Greg Garcia to get the inside story on his five favorite places to eat in San Diego.
This sushi chain is popular across southern California and even Tijuana, but Garcia prefers the one in Santee. In addition to the traditional sushi/sashimi/nigiri you can find seared beef rolls, ceviche rolls and salsa rolls stuffed with spicy tuna, cucumber, avacado and, duh, salsa.
Even though this California burger joint has expanded to regions like Nevada, Utah and even Texas, it's identity belongs 100% to the Golden State. When their first location opened in 1948, it became California's first drivethru. Today's In N Out menu remains mostly faithful to the original, offering a few items done really well.
The Brigantine Seafood and Oyster Bar is a San Diego staple on the foodie scene. They have locations in Coronado, La Mesa, Poway and Del Mar, but Garcia's favorite is the Grossmont location because they have something the others don't - chicken tacos. The menu also includes Sonoran swordfish and calimari sandwhiches. Try not to drool.
Garcia has been filling his belly at the Spaghetti Factory in downtown since he was a little kid, so this spot gets points not just for filling and delicious food, but for nostalgia.
When it comes to taco shops, San Diego has every other city beat. This is not open for debate. Garcia's favorite taco shop is Hilberto's in El Cajon, shout out to Armando!
