The Padres quest for a series sweep in Arizona came up short Sunday as they fell to the Diamondbacks 8-4. Arizona's Zack Grenkie dominated the Padres all-around yet again, pitching 7 innings of 4 hit ball while contribuiting a 2 for 3 performance at the plate. However the friars first road trip of the year was still a successful one, as they return home in sole possesion of first place in the National League West after winning seven of ten games.

Manuel Margot got the Padres going early with his leadoff homerun in the first at bat of the game:

It would remain 1-0 until the bottom of the 3rd when Ketel Marte hit a 2 run shot to give the Diamondbacks the lead. However the Padres would bounce back to tie the game at 2-2 in the 5th thanks to a solo shot from Fernando Tatis Jr.

Unfortunately it unraveled from there for the Friars, as the Diamondbacks came right back with an RBI double from Ildemaro Vargas in the bottom of the same inning, and Ketel Marte put the game out of reach for good with his 3-run blast in the bottom of the 6th.

Despite ending it on a sour note the Padres still head back to San Diego with their heads held high after a successful road trip, as they sit in first place to open up a 2 game series with the Colorado Rockies Monday night.
