Padres use long ball to beat Nationals

The San Diego Padres used the long ball to defeat the Washington Nationals 4-3 on Firday night and start their road trip off on a happy note.

Nationals jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the game on Padres starter Matt Strahm. The next inning Eric Hosmer was able to cut the deficit in half with a solo home run in the top of the 5th.

Padres would then take the lead in the 8th inning on a passed ball that scored Austin Hedges to give the Padres a 3-2 lead. Unfortunatley the Nationals were able to tie it up again in the bottom half of the 8th inning on a lead off home run by Carter Kieboom.

Hunter Renfroe would pinch hit in the 9th inning and hit a go-ahead home run to take a 4-3 lead, and then Kirby Yates would shut it down in the bottom half to pick up his 13th save of the season.
