Padres Lose To Nationals 7-6 In Extras

By: Ron Davis

Despite a hot start the Padres let a tough one slip away Sunday, as they fell to the Washington Nationals by a score of 7-6. The bats were alive early as El Cajon native Greg Garcia staked the Padres to an early lead with his solo shot in the 1st inning.

After an RBI single from Hunter Renfroe in the 2nd and another from Manny Machado in the 3rd, Eric Hosmer stepped in and delivered this 3-run opposite field blast that had Padre fans everywhere thinking the sweep was on.

Unfortunately it all started to unravel for the Padres from there, as the Nationals responded almost immediately in the bottom of the inning with a 3-run home run of their own from Juan Soto, and catcher Kurt Suzuki tacked on another run with an RBI single to make it 6-4. Nationals home runs from Victor Robles in the 4th and Carter Kieboom in the 5th eventually tied the game, and it would stay that way until the bottom of the 11th when Matt Adams hit a walk off home run to end the game and the Padres five-game winning streak.

The Padres still leave Washington with a series victory, but the biggest loss of all may be the injury sustained by young superstar Fernando Tatis Jr. in the 10th inning. Our Pre and Postgame host Chris Ello gives us his "3-up, 3-down" takeaways following Sunday's defeat.
