By Ron Davis:

Different night but pretty much the same story for the Padres on Tuesday as the Giants offense took apart Padre pitching once again, this time en route to a 10-4 San Francisco win. Starter Matt Strahm got hit hard pretty much from the very beginning, as he scattered 11 hits (including a career worst 7 for extra bases) for a total of 7 earned runs over 5 innings of work. Strahm told reporters after the game that although he felt that his stuff was decent but he simply allowed too many mistakes and was just unable to keep the ball in the yard. The pitching staff as a whole had another rough night as they combined to allow a total of 17 hits to a Giants team that knocked them around for 14 hits the night before. Manager Andy Green said all options are on the table as far as the usage of Strahm going forward, and he may consider a return to the bullpen for the left hander in the coming days, although Strahm stated he had not yet been approached about the possibility.

Offensively the Padres were able to come up with 9 hits of their own, although the majority came later in the game when it had been pretty much put out of reach. A couple bright spots did come in the performances of Franmil Reyes (2 for 4 with a home run) and Wil Myers, who came off the bench to pinch hit in the 8th inning and promptly hit a 2-run shot of his own in an encouraging sign that he may be able to work his way out of the slump that has currently relegated him to coming off the bench.

Our Padres Radio Pre and Postgame host Chris Ello gave us some of his takeaways following the loss in our nightly "3 up, 3 down" video recap, as the Padres will look to rebound quickly and salvage a game from the series on Wednesday night before heading up to Los Angeles for 4 games with the Dodgers before the All-Star break. Pregame coverage on 97.3 begins at 5:10 PM, and Ted Leitner and Jesse Agler will have the call of the game starting at 6 PM.
