Selection Sunday for the NCAA Tournament was kind of fun. There wasn’t a lot of teeth gnashing and complaining about who got in and who was left out. No one was moaning about seedings. All in all, I think the committee got it right.

Duke is the number one seed in the tourney and they are my pick to win it all. Ok, full transparency here, I pick Duke to win the NCAA championship every year. They are like the IRS - don't ever bet against them. They always find a way to win, even if you think they can't.  Rule number one for March Madness: Don't ever bet against Coach K, even if you can't spell his name.

Brackets are the big thing everyone is talking about this week.

Pause for a commercial announcement ... Click here to enter 97.3 The Fan's Bracket Challenge to win a 65 inch HD TV. Thank you and now back to our blog.

Some things I try NOT to do on my brackets: I try not to pick too many upsets in the first round, but I do get aggressive in the second round. It is really hard for me to pick all four #1 seeds to make the Final Four, so think about the #2 seed that could have been a #1 seed and, for some reason, doesn't have a fatal flaw like a major injury and they slipped.

Play on your gut feelings because you are not going to pick a perfect bracket, and someone in HR is going to win anyway by using the time tested method of making their picks based on mascots and schools that their family has attended.

Do you fancy yourself an NCAA tournament expert? Do you want to win a new 65" Smart TV? Of course, you do!Starting this Sunday, March 17th, you will have the chance to win that TV if you enter our Bracket Challenge!https://t.co/MEutntsNJd

I know they didn't make the big dance, but hats off to USD and good luck in the NIT.  If they make a big run, good for them.  I know I will be watching and pulling for them to make it to NYC.

I keep thinking about all the new rules in baseball that are on the way, and I am not sure that they will improve the game. Baseball has been pretty timeless and that is part of the charm and appeal of the game.

Most of the rules that I am reading about just don't make sense to me. Making a pitcher face three consecutive batters seems like an overreach. I know a skipper making four pitching changes in one inning is laborious and time-consuming, but do you know why they make all those pitching changes? They make them because they are trying to win.

I posted the following tweet to Steve Phillips: What if your reliever comes in and doesn't have it?  Do you just give the game away?

Steve what happens when bring in a RP in a high leverage situation and they just don’t have it walk the first hitter on 4 pitches? Do you now have to just wear it and watch your guy give up a walk and a go ahead run or give up a bomb to lose the game? SMH https://t.co/uYiyDMsc0S

The Padres have been the talk of baseball, and it is fun hearing random people chatting about Manny Machado at the car wash.

We have a little over a week left before spring training. As we get closer and closer to Opening Day, the chances to win a job get shorter and shorter.  Right now, the starting rotation is wide open and someone needs to step forward and claim the number one and number two spots for San Diego.

If the Padres are going to get off to a good start, they need solid starts from their one and two that will keep them in games to begin the year. If not, they will be playing catch up all season long.
