Despite a rough start the weekend the Padres were at least able to leave Chicago on a positive note after they defeated the Cubs 5-1 Sunday afternoon. The Padres 20 year old lefty Adrian Morejon got his first major league start in the so-called "opener" role and showed flashes of the talent that has made him the curent #4 overall rated prospect in the organization. Despite surrendering a run on an RBI groundout in the first inning, the young flamethrower bounced to retire the next five batters he would face on his way to an overall successful 2.1 inning outing. Right hander Cal Quantrill (still only 24 years old himself if you can believe it) took control from there in relief as he pitched 5.2 innings of great baseball himself, striking out six while allowing no walks and only two base hits.
Offensively for the Padres it was also the young guns who got it done, as Fernando Tatis Jr. had a 2 for 4 day with 3 RBI from the leadoff spot, and Francisco Mejia hit his 4th HR of the season in the 7th inning to give the Padres the lead once and for all:
