As he has all season, Tom Brady appeared on his weekly podcast with Jim Gray Monday night, discussing a wide variety of topics including a recent ESPN report suggesting he plans to retire. The Buccaneers veteran insists he hasn’t reached a decision yet, promising to clue the rest of us in once his mind is made up.
Later in the podcast, Brady and Gray visited with Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, who is headed to Super Bowl LVI after erasing an 18-point deficit in Sunday’s upset of Kansas City. An Ohio native, Burrow began his collegiate career playing under Urban Meyer at Ohio State before transferring to LSU, where he would eventually win a National Championship in 2019. Since failing to beat out Dwayne Haskins’ for the starting job in Columbus, Burrow has carried a chip on his shoulder that remains to this day, defying the odds in becoming a legitimate NFL superstar.

It’s hard to believe Burrow, who had his rookie year cut short by an ACL injury, is now one win away from leading the Bengals, a laughingstock for much of their existence, to an elusive Super Bowl title. Brady, who, as a former sixth-round pick, can certainly relate to being overlooked, told Burrow leaving the Buckeyes for greener pastures in Baton Rouge may be the best decision he’s ever made.
“One of the great decisions you ever made was leaving Ohio State to get out of that godforsaken place and go to LSU,” said Brady, whose disdain for Ohio State is well-documented. “As a Michigan man, I could tell how smart he was when he did that. Thank god. That was one of the best decisions you ever made, Joe.”
“I think it was too,” agreed Burrow. “But maybe for different reasons than you might have.”
If the Bengals conclude their dream season by beating the Rams on February 13th, Burrow would become the first quarterback in history to win a Super Bowl, Heisman Trophy and a college football National Championship.
