DJ Moore gives early impression of Thomas Brown as Bears OC

The end result was still a loss, but the Bears offense showed a little more life Sunday in their first game under Thomas Brown.

Brown took over as offensive coordinator last week after the Chicago Bears fired Shane Waldron. Brown had been serving as the team’s passing game coordinator prior to Waldron’s firing.

The Bears had been listless on offense leading up to Waldron’s firing, and the 19 points they posted in Sunday’s loss to the Packers were the most they’d scored in a game since Week 6 – which is the last time they’ve won. Hardly a sign that things are fully on the upswing, but progress nonetheless.

Bears wideout DJ Moore said Monday in his weekly appearance with Mully & Haugh that Brown’s vibe has been infectious.

“He’s just got a lot of confidence and a lot of energy, so he’s just worked that into the offensive meetings throughout the week and we saw it on Sunday with the playcalls," Moore said. "With him, it’s going to be him and that’s the only way he knows how to be.”

Coincidentally, that energy isn’t actually present on the sidelines during games, as Brown opted to call plays from the booth, a departure from how Waldron used to do things.

Time will tell if his way of doing things proves to be the best, but he’ll face no shortage of challenges with two games each against the Vikings and Lions, plus a tilt with the 49ers in San Francisco, coming up between now and Christmas.
