Games of the Week
Game of the Week:
#16 San Marcos Knights (4-2) vs #2 Carlsbad Lancers (5-1) 7pm

This game strikes me as test day for the San Marcos Knights. So far the Knights have put together a good season under their Head Coach Tom Carroll in his first year at the helm in San Marcos. They have two losses to top 10 teams and 4 wins against teams they were favored to beat. It might not be a final test to end a semester but it does appear to be an earlier test to see where the program currently is and just how far it can go under Carroll. Carroll's pedigree paired with his good staff should be able to surprise the Lancers a couple times on Friday night but this Carlsbad team looks a lot different since the addition of TE Zachary Marshall. Marshall is a transfer from Santa Fe Christian and had to sit out the start of the season, but since coming back, the Lancers have outscored their opponents 69-7. Before that, they had been held to under 20 points in each of their previous contests with the exception of their OT win against Mater Dei. San Marcos leads the overall series 20-17 h=which started back in 1961, a Carlsbad 33-0 win. Carlsbad enters Friday on a 4 game winning streak over San Marcos.
Calpreps.com Prediction: #2 Carlsbad Lancers 42 #16 San Marcos 17

North County Game of the Week:

#9 El Camino Wildcats (4-2) at #15 Torrey Pines Falcons (2-4) 7pm

It has been a tough year for the Falcons in heir first year of Robby Collins as their head coach. But like their former head coach said about their Wing T offense "it is an equalizing offense." Torrey is going to need their offense to equalize in this matchup if they want to slow down El Camino and the gigantic trenches they have on both sides of the ball. El Camino won the first ever matchup against Torrey back in 1976, 27-0. All-time the Falcons own the series (18-8-1).
Calpreps.com Prediction: #9 El Camino 22 #15 Torrey Pines 17

City Game of the Week:

#3 Madison Warhawks (6-0) at #4 Cathedral Catholic Dons (3-4) 7pm

As Madison and Lincoln split the votes for the top team in San Diego, the Warhawks will try and keep pace with Lincoln by matching their victory last week against Cathedral Catholic. The top 3 teams in the Western League are the best top 3 of any league in San Diego so this will not be a walk in the park for Madison even though the Dons have a losing record. Madison will have the advantage in the trenches as their defensive front is arguably the best in The San Diego Section. Cathedral Catholic's offensive line has struggled all season and will have to keep QB Jack Stevens upright if they want to pull the home upset over Madison. When Stevens has been given time to throw, he has put on a show even for a more of a running offense the Dons have. First time these teams played was back in 1963 where the then "Uni" Dons edged Madison 7-0. After 3 wins in a row for Cathedral Catholic over Madison the series is now tied at 13 a piece.
Calpreps.com Prediction: #3 Madison 20 #4 Cathedral Catholic 14

South Bay Game of the Week:

Eastlake Titans (0-6) at Montgomery Aztecs (5-1) 6:30pm

Before this season, Eastlake had been the top program in the South Bay. With a lot of injuries as well as things at an administrative level that the Eastlake players and coaches can not control they find themselves 0-6 to start the season for the first time in program history. Montgomery is a solid DIV school and will be one of the favorites to win DIV come playoff time, but this David vs Goliath battle might be the closest it has ever been. Montgomery only has 2 wins over Eastlake in program history in 14 tries with most of the losses being lopsided scores. This might be the best chance for Eastlake to get a win all season and also might be one of the only times Montgomery can get the Titans. Should be a close one on Friday night.
Calpreps.com prediction: Eastlake 17 Montgomery 16
