It's no secret that former Cowboys head coach Jimmy Johnson and Jerry Jones have an ongoing feud that spans back to the dynasty days of the 1990s.

Jones had originally promised Johnson that he will induct him into the Cowboys' Ring of Honor during the 2021 Hall of Fame game – a decision Jones has yet to make heading into a new season.

In an interview with NBC Dallas/Fort Worth Sunday, the Cowboys owner was pressed on why he's yet to induct Johnson – making his opinion on his former coach abundantly clear.

“It’s BS for anybody to be making anything (of that),” Jones said. “I’ve said I’m going to put him in. Now, when I put him in, and the circumstances and what I do with that, there’s a lot more than Jimmy to think about here, and I’ve got a lot of other lives out here that have laid a lot on the line on the field that need to be in that Ring of Honor as well. And so how I do that, what I do it with, I get to make that decision, and it isn’t at the end of the day all tailored around whether Jimmy is sniveling or not.”

Jones' response comes after NBC 5 reporter Newy Scruggs called his decision to exclude Johnson "petty."

Johnson and Jones' relationship dates all the way back to the 1960s when the two were roommates and teammates on the Arkansas Razorbacks. After buying the Cowboys from then owner Bum Bright in 1989, Jones immediately fired legendary head coach Tom Landry and replaced him with Johnson while he served as the team's GM.

After a 1-15 season in 1989, the Cowboys quickly found success, winning Super Bowls in 93' and 94.' However, their relationship quickly soured after Johnson sought out more sway in the team's personnel decisions –something Jones was unwilling to give up.

As a result, Johnson left the team and was replaced by former Oklahoma coach Barry Switzer, winning another Lombardi Trophy in 1996 -- largely Johnson's players.

The Super Bowl victory in 96' marked the last time the team made the big game in 26 years.

Scruggs added to his report that the 78-year-old Cowboys owner “got testy at the end” of the interview.

Although this interview is telling that things aren't on the up and up between the two, Jones did present Johnson his Hall of Fame ring during halftime of a game last season after the ball coach was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2021.
