(670 The Score) Bears coach Matt Nagy on Wednesday denied the latest report that the team has already informed him he'll soon be fired.
NFL on CBS analyst and WFAN host Boomer Esiason reported on his radio show early Wednesday morning that Nagy has already been informed the Bears will fire him after their season finale against the Vikings on Sunday. Nagy denied the legitimacy of that report prior to practice Wednesday, saying his communication with Bears management has remained unchanged during the course of this season.
“I can clear it up,” Nagy said. “I’m very honest and open with (the media) and that has not been told to me. There’s going to be reports that come out probably at this point in the season. Anything that is said or reported by somebody is just that.
“Anybody that has a report that is going to talk to somebody who talked to somebody who talked to somebody – call me up and ask me. I promise you I’ll tell you the truth. I’m a pretty good source.”
In late November, a report from Patch.com stated Nagy was informed he'd be fired following Chicago's game at Detroit on Thanksgiving Day. Nagy was blindsided by that report and denied it publicly prior to the Bears earning a 16-14 win over the Lions. The reporter later wrote a column wondering if he had been “bamboozled” by his lone source who informed him of Nagy's apparent firing that didn't occur.
Nagy has dealt with frequent speculation about his job status as the Bears (6-10) wind down their season. They've been eliminated from playoff contention since Dec. 20.
"It's just a matter of making sure you handle it the right way and you're open and honest,” Nagy said. “I think that's what I've been this entire time. I think the players understand and respect that."
