Bob Myers' drive from San Francisco to Sacramento was an anxious one, but a simple comment put his mind at ease – and proved to be foreshadowing.
Myers made the trip to Sacramento with Warriors vice president of basketball operations, Mike Dunleavy. He proved to be a good companion for the trip, as Dunleavy has plenty of experience as a player and grew up with an NBA coach for a dad.
As they were discussing the upcoming game, Dunleavy made a remark that stood out for Myers, which he shared Monday on “The Morning Roast.”
“Mike played in the NBA 15 years, he was born into the NBA, his dad coached," Myers sadi. "So, it’s nice to have people to talk to that have been around and played in games, but we’re human beings. We work hard, we thought we built a good roster, we want to win.
“But he said one thing that resonated. We were driving up and he said ‘Well, I’ll tell you what,’ I said ‘What.’ He goes ‘We've still got the best player in the series.’ And that sounds simple, but that matters.”
That comment could not have proven more salient. After delivering a speech for the ages in the before the trip up, Curry delivered with a 50-point performance in Game 7.
Now, they get to face LeBron James and the Lakers in the second round.
