Casey Mize struggled mightily in his final regular season start for the Padres, which could lead to him being left off the team's Wild Card roster after a lackluster stint with the Padres since being acquired at the trade deadline. Mize yielded 7 earned runs in 4 innings, including 3 runs in the first inning to put the Padres in a 3-0 hole before ever stepping to the plate. The Diamondbacks scored off of Mize in each inning he pitched, including three long balls. It was a night where the Padres were never close to winning, as they trailed 11-2 at one point. The Padres outhit the Diamondbacks 10-8, hit no home runs and only hit 2-10 with runners in scoring position, as the Padres failed to secure homefield advantage in the Wild Card round. They'll get another shot on Saturday when Walker Buehler toes the rubber.
