DETROIT (97.1 The Ticket) -- Kelly Stafford, the wife of Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford, is back at home after a successful surgery last week to remove a brain tumor.
Stafford announced earlier this month she had been diagnosed with acoustic neuroma, a very rare type of benign tumor that develops on the nerves leading from the inner ear to the brain, per the Mayo Clinic.
She took to Instagram on Easter Sunday to express her gratitude for her surgeons and thousands of supporters on social media. Stafford said in her post that the surgery, which was supposed to take about six hours, took 12 hours because she had an abnormal vein.
"When they opened me up, I had an abnormal vein.. maybe abnormal for other neurosurgeons, but not the one We chose," Stafford wrote. "He had seen it before and written a paper on it. That's truly God's work.
"The prayers for my family, I'm beyond thankful for. A six hour surgery went to 12 hours and although they were anxious and scared, your prayers got them through."
