The Padres lost to the Guardians 7-0 on Friday, in a game where the final score wasn't indicative of how close the game was. Matt Waldron was fantastic, allowing just 1 run 6 innings, but the Padres' offense and bullpen weren't able to pick him up as they cobbled together just 4 hits. Things fell apart in the 8th inning for San Diego, when Stephen Kokek was charged with 4 earned runs without recording an out. Austin Davis then came in and gave up 2 more earned runs while recording just one out. By the time Sean Reynolds recorded the final 2 outs of the inning, the damage had been done, with the Guardians turning what had been a 1-0 game into a 7-0 game. The Padres will attempt to rebound with Dylan Cease starting on Saturday.
