The Padres lost an absolute heartbreaker to the Tigers on Thursday night. Jurickson Profar's solo home run in the 1st inning put the Padres up 1-0. Xander Bogaerts belted a 2-run shot in the 2nd inning to give the Padres a 3-run cushion. And Martin Perez was fantastic, not allowing a run while pitching into the 7th inning. After allowing two runners to reach base, Jason Adam relieved Perez and escaped the jam without allowing a run to score. Robert Suarez entered the game in the 9th inning with the Padres leading 3-0, and allowed a single and a walk to begin the inning. After getting Spencer Torkelson to pop out to second base, Colt Keith drew a walk to load the bases with one out. Suarez would strike out Kerry Carpenter, and then with a full count and two outs, Parker Meadows hit a grand slam that just barely cleared the fence to complete the Tigers' comeback and prevent being swept. The Padres will lick their wounds and welcome the Giants to Petco Park beginning on Friday.
