The Padres beat the Astros 3-2 on Sunday to avoid being swept, but the win was overshadowed by the scary injury Luis Arraez suffered in the top of the 1st inning. Arraez laid down a drag bunt and collided with Mauricio Dubon, who was covering the bag on the play. Arraez lay motionless on the ground for several minutes. He had to have his neck stabilized and was carted off the field and sent to the hospital. The team announced he was concious and had feeling in his extremities, and was back with the team after the win. Mike Shildt said it was the best case scenario in terms of results given the nature of the injury.
As for the game, Fernando Tatis scored the game's first run on what looked like an inning-ending double play in the 1st, but Christian Walker couldn't handle the throw at first base, allowing Tatis to come all the way around to score from second base. Gavin Sheets ripped an RBI-double in the 3rd to make it a 2-0 game. The Padres' bats went cold after that, and the Astros tied the game at 2 in the 5th inning on an RBI-sac fly from Yordan Alvarez. But after scoring both of the Padres' two runs earlier in the game, Fernando Tatis hit a solo homer to dead center field in the 7th inning that proved to be the game-winner and thwart the Astros' sweep attempt. The Padres now head to Detroit for a 3-game series against the Tigers.
