The Padres came up short Sunday afternoon, as they fell to the Cardinals 4-1 in the series finale. Despite an early lead and an encouraging rebound performance from Matt Strahm, the Friars just couldnt string enough hits together with runners on base to come away with the sweep.
Eric Hosmer got the Padres on the board in 3rd with a 2 out RBI single:

— FOX Sports San Diego (@FOXSportsSD) April 7, 2019Unfortunately it was all Cardinals from there on out. Strahm battled to keep the Padres in the game but Paul DeJong delivered a clutch 2 out double to score 2 runs in the 4th, and the Cardinals scraped together 2 more runs thanks to a sacrifice fly from Matt Carpenter in the 7th and a bunt single from Kolten Wong in the 8th.
The Padres still can still head back to the west coast with their heads held high as they leave St. Louis with a big early season series win and sole possesion of 2nd place in the National League West.
