The Padres won a hard-fought matchup against the Dodgers 2-1 on Friday night to reclaim a share of the NL West lead. Yu Darvish bounced back from his previous outing against the Dodgers, allowing just one hit, a solo home run to Alex Freeland, in six innings of work. Freeland's long ball was one of just three hits for the Dodgers on the night. Manny Machado tied the game with an RBI-single in the 4th inning, and Xander Bogaerts put the Padres on top for good with an RBI-sac fly two batters later. Things got dramatic late in the game however. Mason Miller was called upon to protect a one run lead in the 8th. After walking two of the first three batters he faced, he got pinch-hitter Dalton Rushing to ground into an inning ending double play that featured Miller covering first and making an incredible scoop after Arraez fielded the grounder and threw to second base. Robert Suarez entered in the 9th inning to face the top of LA's lineup. Shohei Ohtani led off the inning by flying out to the warning track in straight away center field. Mookie Betts then singled, putting the tying run on base. After Will Smith struck out, Freddie Freeman singled to right field, allowing Betts to go first to third. But with runners on the corners and two outs with the Padres leading 2-1, Suarez struck out Teoscar Hernandez to end the game and earn his 34th save of the season. Saturday's pitching matchup will feature Nestor Cortes against Tyler Glasnow.
