The Padres opened up their series at Coors Field with a 3-1 win over the Rockies. Dylan Cease was brilliant, allowing just one run on one hit while striking 8 and walking none over 7 innings. Cease retired the final 12 Rockies he faced. Jurickson Profar drove in Jose Azocar in the 3rd inning, and Ryan McMahon drove in Charlie Blackmon with a sac-fly in the 4th. The 1-1 score would hold until the 8th inning, when the Padres mounted a 2-out rally with three consecutive hits. Luis Campusano legged out a double, followed by a pinch-hit RBI-single from Tyler Wade. Wade advanced to second base on the throw home, and then scored on Jackson Merrill's opposite field RBI-single. Things got interesting in the bottom of the 9th, when Robert Suarez surrendered a leadoff double to Sean Bouchard. After Charlie Blackmon flew out, Ezequiel Tovar singled to center, setting up the Rockies with runners at the corners and one out, and the go-ahead run at the plate. But Suarez got Ryan McMahon to ground into a game-ending 6-4-3 double play to end the game and earn his 8th save of the season. Michael King will get the ball on Tuesday for the Padres.
