The Padres got back in the win column on Monday night, defeating the Reds 6-2. Freddy Fermin's momentum at the plate carried over from the weekend, as he put the Padres on top 1-0 in the 3rd inning with a solo home run, marking his third consecutive game with a home run. The Reds overtook the Padres with a run in each of the 5th and 6th innings, but the Padres were able to reclaim their late-game magic from earlier in the season. Xander Bogaerts led off the bottom of the 7th with a ground rule double, and then Gavin Sheets brought him home with a double of his own. Jase Bowen then bunted for a single and advanced Sheets to third, bringing up his fellow rookie Samad Taylor. Taylor then laid down a bunt of his own to bring home Gavin Sheets and put the Padres on top 3-2. The Padres then tacked on three insurance runs in the bottom of the 8th, highlighted by a 2-run single with two outs from Samad Taylor. Lucas Giolito will start for the Padres on Tuesday.
