The Padres turned a 9th inning deficit into a win for the third consecutive game on Friday night, with Jackson Merrill once again providing the heroics. Martin Perez impressed again, yielding just two solo home runs over 7 innings of work against the Marlins. Manny Machado's RBI-double in the 8th inning made it a 2-1 game. That set the stage for the rookie center fielder to slam a game-tying home run to straight away center field, adding to his Major League leading total of game-tying or walk-off home runs in the 9th inning this season. All in all, Merrill went 3-4 plus a walk and two stolen bases, falling a double shy of the cycle. He added an RBI-single in the 10th inning for good measure. The Padres added 4 runs in the top of the 10th inning, and held on to win 6-2. The Padres improved to 65-52 with the victory.
